The Story of “Prayers for the World”:

“Prayers for the World” is a project born of pure spirit! The concept began in a dream, Tuesday March 25, at 3:15am. The entire song played out in my head. As I awoke, it simply would not leave me alone. I got up to make notes and record the drum cadence that kept repeating in my soul. The dream was very powerful. It began with the Australian Aboriginal Didgeridoo; the oldest instrument in the world. The track then moves into Japanese Taiko drums playing a regimented cadence overlaid with prayers spoken in many different languages. Sprinkled into the mix are many sacred instruments, from many different cultures, from all over the world. I turned on my keyboard rig and found some samples of Taiko drums, grabbed my Didgeridoo, and pressed the record button on my twenty dollar cassette recorder to begin recording the drum cadence from the dream. This went on for about twenty minutes, then I went back to bed.

After a night of very little sleep, I placed a call to Chuck, my friend and studio engineer, to tell him of the haunting dream. Only a few days before, we had finished the tracks from my new solo piano CD and were to begin mixing and mastering on the upcoming weekend. When I shared the elements of the dream with Chuck, he said, “Let’s do this!”. From that moment on, spirit really took over.

My first thoughts were; how in a small town in Southern Louisiana am I going to do this? How am I going to find people to read, speak and interpret the prayers in different languages? How can I accomplish this in such a short time? Where do I begin? This is when the magic began!
